Data Recovery Advice

Seagate Baracuda 2TB docked external drive makes recurring clicking noise at power up then is silent. Not recognised by dock or PC SATA as media. Replacing controller with same firmware made no difference so think it is heads fault.

Buffalo 500GB external hard drive clicks and fails to start. I need a quote to include any additional costs related to where the recovered data would be placed.

I am looking for a spare part for a Seagate 2.5 hard drive (which was inside a Freecom MG mobile drive). It is a USB 3.0 converter. The P/N is EPB0009150 and I can also read S10F4501 – A0. I am not sure if the information are sufficient, but I can also send you a picture of the component.

I have a Lacie external that has stopped mounting. I think you can hear and feel it ticking away. It has wedding photos on so is fairly precious. Can you let me know how much it would cost to have a look at and try and fix?

Unable to read hard drive I/O Out Error

hard drive

I contacted you yesterday about an external hard drive that stopped working.
It’s very important (to me), because it has all my backups of research data and photos and everything on there. Unfortunately, my laptop stopped working last week and had to be sent to lenovo for repairs. As I had a backup on my external hard drive in was not too worried about the laptop potentially being wiped. Now the external hard drive is unresponsive and I’m in a panic.

my external hardrive is only appearing on disk utility, i have attempted first aid however it appears to be unsuccessful. and has advised if possible to back up all data. i believe a file has been corrupted and this has somehow broken the hardrive’s structure. i would greatly appreciate a full back up of the hard drive.

I use my seagate external hard drive to store my travel footages and edited vlogs. One day I connected it to my laptop and it completely froze the laptop. I was unable to eject before restarting because it was frozen. Once it was turned back on, the hard drive didn’t show up on finder or desktop. When it eventually does, nothing shows up, my laptop crashes and I would have to restart it again.

I have a 2TB external hard drive that gets plugged in to electricity and my laptop that had fallen and now makes a clicking sound when trying to access my data. It’s no longer recognized/accessible from my laptop. How much do you charge to recover the approximately 500GB worth of data on there and transfer it to another new hard drive?

I would like to know how much it will cost me to repair my drive. I believe it fall down. I just need to have an idea of the cost to know if I’ll be able to pay for it or not !

I will be at london 4-9 of september as a tourist.
I want to take whith me my broken hard disk and fix it . Can you help me to do it? Can you do it in that days that i stay in london?

Help getting data off phones

Here are some recent enquiries about recovering the data from mobile phones. It’s interesting reading and more can be found at http://phone-recovery.pen.io/.

My Samsung S6 has died completely and no manner of various button pressing seems to make any difference. There is a small crack on the back of the phone which is likely to invalidate the warranty therefore I am looking at potential options to cover phone numbers and more importantly photographs from the device as well as getting it repaired. The phone has been switching itself off and taking a while to recharge but has stopped working completely now. Can you retrieve the data and repair the phone?

My Samsung Galaxy J7 has stopped working completely. I cannot turn it on and I tried to have it repaired but the shop wasn’t able to do it. I would like to know if it is possible to retrieve images and documents from it or is it all lost.

I recently dropped my iphone 6 in the toilet and since it only turns on to the apple screen. I (stupidly) hadnt backed up any of my photos and REALLY would love to get them back – do you think this would be a possibility?

My girlfriend has an Iphone 6 on whch she has lost several voice recordings. The loss seems to have happened when the phone updated. The files are no longer found in the app but when I search the phone for them they appear in search results. The loss of data occurred around a month ago. I delete from my phone some txt what was very important for me it’s possible recovery txt from my phone.

I have a Samsung Galaxy s6 edge which is like to get my files and photos extracted from. The phone is completely dead and a new charging port, battery and screen did nothing. However, the motherboard does heat up apparently so they suspect it’s a fault with that. Would you be able to fix it, and if not would you be able to get the files and photos from it? I did have them backed up but absent mindedly deleted the app to save storage/data and didn’t think it’s un-back-up them. I’d be sad if it was unfixable because the phone is in good condition, but my main priority is the photos. There is No warranty on the phone.

Can you advise on a broken dock charging port for a Nokia Lumia 1020 ? Do you mend and at what cost thanks.

Accidentally had deleted a load of pictures for travel off iPhone. New help restoring please

I accidentally deleted 25 photos from my phone today and despite trying an online purchased software they were not located (although hundreds of other photos were, including ones I had NOT deleted!). Is it possible to recover them and is it possible to make an appointment and have someone look ‘while I wait’? My phone is still working so I can’t really be without it for more than half a day. Chiswick would be closest for me.

The memory of the phone is not enough, and the data of photo and also record of wechat is lost, could you please help to recover them? Thx

I have had an IPhone 4 s for a few years now and the substandard battery I fitted a couple of months ago has damaged my phone by the heat it has produced. It only shows me the apple when you switch it on then nothing else. I’m quite keen to retrieve the photos & contacts off the phone and I’m unsure if its reparable so I can retrieve it myself or if its not it’s something you can retrieve ? Probably best to email as I’m working away with no phone at the moment.

Faulty drive, starts to work but wont read the hard drive at all. 500Gb Lacie external hard drive. Faults on Toshiba and OCZ Hard Drives

I have one USB HDD from Toshiba. Details of HDD – TOSHIBA Disk Drive – MQ01ABD100M, Drive Rev – AZA BB00/AX101U.
This HDD is not being detected. I have checked with local IT guys but they are saying that the top platter has scratches on it so the data can not be recover but only top plattter has scratches so I still have hope if I show it to any Big DRR firm like you then you can recover the data from below platters hence I would like to check with you if you can recover the data from this HDD. They have already tried with heads from different hard disk of same model but unfortunately it is not working.
Important thing here is I don’t have any issues with the HDD if it is wasted but the data contains in the disk is very important for me if you can give me that data back then It is fine for me.
What would be estimated expense for this repairing you can tell me rough figure.
As this is my personal HDD and not belongs to any Business firm, I can not afford high cost.
Hence please help me here at first about estimated cost to get the data recover from this dead HDD. If it is affordable for me then I will go ahead with the recovery option also please let me know if you start your data recovery process then what is assurance of I will get my data back?

ssd and hdd

Fire damage to power connector on PCB. I transferred files to a hard drive then did a reset on my laptop. Seems I only transferred copies of the files and now they won’t open. Is there anyway to get these files back. Or are they gone completley

The main hard drive, a OCZ 100MB SSD, has stopped being recognised by my (desktop) computer, and so will no longer boot. I would like to recover the files on the drive – ideally the whole drive, but my users folder at the very least. I’m Twickenham based, and I see you have a clinic in Richmond – please could I arrange a callback to discuss this?

Erased Data – Need it back

I have accidentally erased / formatted a Seagate 7200rpm USB 3 2TB external hard drive. The drive contained video files and project files and I need to get them retrieved. Is this possible? I haven’t used the drive since formatting.

Ain’t used in a long time. It has all my music and photos, videos music from over the years. Yesterday my was broke so hoped to get all music from the external but when i connect it it shows nothing and says almost empty but i know it was almost full. Anyway to retrieve it?

Hard drive fell (a very very short distance) onto the floor, now is not recognised by Mac Pro. Makes a short sound when plugged into computer, but not recognised in Finder – but IS recognised in System Report. Looking to recover all data and move to new hard drive.

HP Proliant serversWent to format a drive and computer selected a different drive. unplugged it about 10sec in to formatting it so now wont mount. its a seagate 4tb drive and i need to recover about 500gig of photos and my iphoto cat off it. there is other info on it but i have those backed up already.
i just need a rough quote of cost to recover.

We require the data to be removed from approximately 250 removable SAS hard drives from mostly HP Pro Reliant servers prior to reselling. They are at a site in Camden, London. Please could you also let me know if there is availability over the next week.

My laptop does not recognise the hard drive when connected via USB. I have tried on multiple devices and had the same problem. It’s probably beyond my budget but I was just wondering (roughly) how much it would cost to retrieve music from my iPod classic?

Hard Drives that have failed

Here’s the latest batch of posts that have come into us from people with failed hard drives who need to retrieve their data. As you can see, the hard drives have failed for a number of reasons. Sometimes the data is recoverable, other times not. It all depends on the problem. Professional data recovery services are available throughout the UK from companies like Data Clinic Ltd, who have been retrieving people files from dead hard drives for over 15 years.

hard drive brokenWD Mypassport Ultra external hard drive seems to have failed. Powers up when connected but not visible as a device (I have a macbook) so I can’t see anything. A 3TB internal drive that shows no signs of damage externally. Not showing up in BIOS in two different machines. It feels as if it spins up when power is switched on then stops a few seconds later.

Need Data of of old hard drive
I’m afraid this might not be the most helpful description of a problem. I have an old external hard-drive that failed quite a few years ago. It has, since failing, sat in a box and collected dust. When it failed, it simply failed to start-up at all, but it did go through a short period of “clicking”. I would love to know the likelihood of getting my data back, and the cost that might be incurred. I haven’t needed the files on the disk for a long time, so it isn’t urgent at all. As such, if it’s going to be very expensive then I’ll probably leave it, but there are some “rare” MP3s from bands that I used to see, that I simply can’t find anywhere else that would be great to get back! As well as a few films, etc

USB Port takes too much energy
I plugged in my external hard drive one day and a window popped up saying that the USB Port was taking too much energy. I unplugged it and tried again – the alert remained. Since then my Mac hasn’t recognised my Hard Drive. I tried it on a different Mac and it’s not being recognised there either. Hard Drive is working as light blinks when plugged in but just refuses to be recognised. Cannot access it – lifetime of photos 🙁

External USB 3.0 hard drive 1TB by Verbatim (disk by HGST) – it slid off the desk while connected to he computer, under it’s own weight disconnected from the cable and dropped to the floor about 30-40 cm. It was connected a moment earlier and working fine. When reconnected device is recognized as External Hard drive, but cannot be initialized (either win 7 pro or win 8 pro). No vibration when connected, just very slight whining noise – like electrical motor in a fan prevented from turning by holding the impeller in place. I need to recover any private pics, videos and documents that are on this drive, so can you help me?

Yes – I can help – please contact me with your details so I can contact you.

Android Local Disk Boot Loops

I have a 500Gb WD passport external hard drive that has suddenly decided that it’s not going to work any more. I have been backing up files from my old laptop onto it all day and now when I insert it to my new laptop that runs off windows 10 I get either “The parameter is incorrect” error and it just says “local disk” (I) instead of “my passport” or I get a “the request failed due to a fatal device hardware error” message. The external hard drive hhas been working all day on both computers and now suddenly it’s not. Please could you help me recover my files?

data recovery seagate barracuda hddI have a Samsung M3 Slimline 1TB USB 3.0 portable hard drive, which was functioning perfectly last night. This morning I turned on the desktop it was connected to, and it seemed to get stuck on the motherboard splash screen. After plugging the hard drive into another computer and turning it on it had the same issue, but the machine booted up just fine without the drive connected. When I connect the drive once a machine is booted, the light on the drive will come on (solid), but the computer doesn’t detect anything, even as a malfunctioning drive, and when I hold my ear to the drive I can hear it beep quietly about a dozen times, then stop.
I have some of the data backed up, but not all, and I would sincerely like to try to recover what is on the drive. If possible, please contact me via email as I cannot always answer my phone due to work commitments.

laptop keyboard punched. laptop went blank. computer turns on but hard drive not found. Would you be able to look at a laptop that has had a drink spilled on it? Some of the keys have now stopped working despite tries to dry the laptop out. If so, can I bring it in at any time or do I have to book a slot? Also what would be the cost to look at it? Lost photos unable to read hard disk.

I have an Android phone stuck in a boot loop. The phone is an HTC One (i.e. M7). I had not been having any problems, and got up one day to ind the phone stuck rebooting – there was no trigger event or “incident”. The phone is quite old, and had some battery problems because of its age, but nothing worse. The phone can charge, and boots through the HTC screen and then goes blank, before resetting (maybe around a minute after powering on). I can get into the recovery screen and fastboot by holding VOL-DOWN while rebooting. I have tried various recovery or reboot options in there but none make any difference. I have NOT tried the “factory reset” option as I am much more interested in getting the data off than getting the handset working again. I also tried accessing it over ADB from my PC, but as I never tried this when the phone was working I don’t know whether the problem with that is with me or with the phone.
I wanted to ask if you could make any suggestions or give me an estimate for taking a look at the phone.
The main thing I am interested in getting back is my photos, although I am also interested in other data from the internal storage, as well as texts and data from a few apps.

Freecom Hard Drive is Damaged

We have a damaged Freecom usb drive that looks like the connecting cable has been bent against the connection on the hard drive, this small part has broken off the hard drive circuit making computer connection impossible. The hard drive its self is ok.

Freecom hard drive

A Freecom hard drive

I have an external hard drive with lots of photos on it which I can’t turn on to access. I think it has been dropped, and it sounds as if the hardware is trying to start but can’t. Could I get a quote for how much this might cost?

USB memory stick does not work when plugged in to port, can you recover the data on the stick?. I was wondering how much you charge for USB data recovery. The device is not being recognised by the computer. The following has been tried: device manager, computer manager, my computer. I think it is a hardware failure.
I have spare USB’s of the same type if required for parts, etc.

Hi I was recently on holiday and my iphone 7 plus and my stupid partner decided to see if he could take a pic under water the sea it was in there for literally a few minutes when he got it out it started making a clicky noise then went off and is completely dead this happend about a week and half ago and still won’t work at all my laptop won’t recognise it either I’ve been so upset as I have lost my holiday photos I took as obviously I was out and did not have time to connect to wifi for them certain pictures to be updated to iCloud is there anything you can do and if so a rough price

Prices: Data recovery is only applicable if you want the data off the storage device that has gone wrong. If you’re not bothered about the data then don’t buy a data recovery service, simply replace the hard drive or mobile phone. The cost of recovering a Freecom hard drive like the one above costs around £500 depending on the damage.

Prices of File Recovery

I’m often asked about the costs of file recovery from phones and hard drives. Usually hard drives are more expensive to recover than phones. The usual prices are between £200 and £400 for phones and £500 to £800 for hard drives. My latest enquiries to recover files from devices include:

I have a samsung 1tb external HDD. It failed about two of months ago. I took it to another data recovery company. At the time I didn’t know about Data Clinic. They managed to recover about 230gb. This HDD is nearly full. I am wondering if you can recover more. Just to let you know there is quiet a lot of adult content (pictures and videos). I will understand if you dont want to recover the Hdd due to this. I was told that the drive failed due to a power surge.

Accidently dropped my Seagate hard drive, now it making a clicking sound and will not work. This happened in 2009 but quotes were very expensive then. I have kept it hoping the cost of recovery would drop. I have lots of photos I would like to recover.

My LG 3s was playing up so my wife reset it to factory settings last week and I have obviously lost all my messages and other data. Is there any way the messages can be retrieved please?

Water damaged iphone. phone is not charging or connecting to my mac. i forgot passcode lock on my iphone 5s. i cannot get into it any more, i do not want to reset it as my pictures are on it, can you get pictures off?

I cannot access the files on My Passport. Sometimes the pc recognises the device and shows they are there but most of the time it does not. When they do show they cannot copy across. The pc always recognises something is plugged in, just not what it is. What I need to know more than anything is how much this might cost me. I am only working for another month before becoming self employed (for very little)!

I’ve had my external WD Hard Drive for around 4-5 years now. It has been flawless and I have almost 800gb worth of data on there. Recently, I’ve been having issues connecting my external HD to my computer. Whenever I plug in the USB, my computer will start lagging and I won’t be able to open “My Computer” or load any other folders. Additionally, the external HD is no longer recognised or detected by my PC. When it is plugged in, Local Drive (F:) shows up but I won’t be able to click into it (it will just lag and get stuck). Device Manager seems to detect the WD passport and also there are no Yellow Warning Signals on any of the USB ports.

Western Digital 2TB WD Elements, USB Bus powered. WDBU6Y0020BBK-01. Hard-drive is powering up over USB and is detected as a USB device. Hard-drive letter is shown but unable to access (just hangs). Hasn’t received any physical trauma, it was left connected to a PC in an air conditioned comms room and failed out of the blue. Can’t hear any of the typical drive failure noises i’m used to (clanging etc) there’s a low pitched sound followed by what sounds like the drive resetting. Hoping to get some rough costs on recovery and timescales, there’s a lot of data on there but only 1 or 2 folder which should be less than 300GB (if memory serves) which we care about. I’m based in the Stockport / Manchester area.

I have dropped a WD external HD and cannot acces my data anymore. Is there anything you can do? I am home today if you want to come and collect my HD. I am in Walkley, Sheffield S6 3TR

Testing a new data recovery specialist in the UK

I have a Buffalo Ministation Air HDWP500U3. Which wont load on a windows or MAc. I have ran a data recovery tool and can see there is still data on it. I copied some data on this had and then it started to become inaccessible and very slow reading. Then I tried to scan it and fixed some bads and copy the data to another one. I couldn’t copy much as it become more and more hard to access.
Now it is not visible in the system anymore.
It was opened by somebody else but didn’t manage to recover the data.

External iomega 500G drive failing to mount and clicking? contains approx 400G of data mainly image files and I’d like if possible for data to be recovered and transfered to new drive. I have two external hardrives about 5 years old

Parts inside a hard driveI have removed then from there external case because they were not powering up. I need to get all the data off them and out it one one haeddrive

Clicking noise, HDD not visible in system: WD30EZRX. With the Buffalo MiniStation I’m looking to find a decent data recovery company (Ed: Look not further!), and the files on the Iomega hard drive should be recoverable too. It’s a Seagate 1TB portable hard-drive and is only a month old. It was working fine until I unplugged it from one laptop and attached to it to another. Since then it hasn’t worked, it shows up in disk management as not initalised and shows a capacity of 0 bytes.
And now it’s started making a beeping noise when it’s plugged in. I’ve attempted to use recovery software but it’s no help because the drive doesn’t show up in the scan. Does this mean the data can’t be rescued ?

Maxtor (OneTouch)
When HardDrive was connected it would hum / click, but PC would not recognise or connect.
I’ve opened the casing and noted that the hard-drive does not spin nor do the heads move from the centrally locked position. The hard-drive has photographs stored on them and i would dearly like to have them retrieved as cost effectively as possible, please.

Note: I’m trialing the services of Data Recovery Tips – an UK hard drive and phone recovery specialist. I’ll let you know how they get on in getting the data from the above storage devices back.
