Raid and lost data

RAID hard drive failure in HPZ420
HPZ420I have a HPZ420 PC which contains a 4 disk raid 10(0+1) configured system which is unable to boot from the operating system. The PC is used to control and receive data from a scientific instrument. A week ago when the PC was working fine I noticed that one of the disks had failed and an HP engineer was called out and replaced the faulty disk but would not reconfigure the RAID system. The PC was still working fine at this point, so I decided to do a back up to external disk overnight, unfortunately the PC failed to complete this before going into its current state of losing the ability to load the operating system. I would like to recover the data.

Lost data on Playstation 4
I basically connected my hard drive with a PlayStation 4; and unplugged it without ejecting it properly – now, when I connect it with my computer it shows up but it doesn’t show my files. I had a chat with my college technician and he believes that it’s not corrupted but we can’t quite figure out the problem. I am just wondering if you are able to get all my work back as it is super important? How long it can take as it is college work and I need to hand it in? And how much do you roughly charge? Thank you so much. I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Data recovery charges can vary between several hundred and several thousand pounds. If the problem is on a single hard drive (like a PS4) then the cost is usually much lower than if the problem is spread across many hard drives like on a RAID system. My advice is to do your own research and find a decent data recovery company who can help you.

HTC / iPhone and Toshiba hard drive recovery questions

HTC and iPhone Recovery Questions
My HTC One M7 stopped working and little did I know at the time that it had stopped backing up my photos to Dropbox nearly a year beforehand. The Laptop Fixers in Bournemouth took a look but couldn’t retreive the data and I’m interested in understanding if there is another way and of course the cost. I’m in Poole, Dorset and can get to Gloucester if required.

Bournemouth

Have a iphone 6s damaged beyond repair. Think it had drink spilt on it, won’t turn on or charge. Have tried local repair shop who advised it’s dead and they can’t fix it. Not that bothered about fixing the phone but would like to try and get photos and data (Whatsapp data etc.) back. My phone hadn’t backed up to the cloud for at least 12 months so anything in that time is currently lost. Can you email me if you think it’s possible and a rough price?

Dropped phone in water on Sat night, kept it in rice all weekend, had it ultrasonically cleaned today – no luck. Now resorting to data recovery to pull off my precious photos!

The motherboard on my Samsung Galaxy S6 has blown and I need the data retrieved.

Hard Disk Recovery Questions
I have an external 1TB Toshiba Canvio – by accident wiped all the files out (about 600GB) and formatted to 35GB by Windows recovery drive creator.
I actually need to recover one particular folder which is less than 100GB. Do you have a location for data recovery in Bournmnouth?

I’ve got an external hard drive made by Toshiba and I cant see to find it. the green light isn’t flashing as it normally does but I can feel/hear the fan working or something working inside. I need to get all my files off the hard drive into a working hard drive that I can access. I’m located close to Gloucester in Gloucestershire.

I was copying lots of files from internal SSD to the Toshiba external hard drive. The process froze and I ended the copying process. Then file explorer stopped responding for a long time and I force restarted my CPU. Can’t access data in my external hard drive ever since.
I also have a side question: even if my data is recovered, could my external drive still work? I don’t mind formatting the drive.
But the main question is: is my data recoverable?

I had my dissertation on my pen drive and the word file has went corrupt, is there any chance that you may able to recover it? It is due on Monday. I know it’s my own fault as I only saved it to the pen drive. I look forward to hearing from you.

Two desktop HDDs (no rush):
1) 10 beeps then no noise, corrupted and unreadable HDD.
2) Overclocked CPU fried the second HDD.
Also, do you check each (media) file for integrity/accessibility/HEX dumps?

No Boot Device

Our client’s hard drive has failed (PC showed “no boot device“). Removed from PC and attached via USB caddy but drive is only recognised as “needs formatting” (obviously didn’t do this!).
He has most of his data on a backup but is missing some so would like us to try to get it recovered.
Seagate Barracuda 500GB
P/N 1BD142-500

Error message: No Boot Device available

The person who replaced the damaged hard drive I our laptop said that the problem was boot looping (laptop failed to boot – no device present) and an issue with the headstack arm (clicking). Could you quote for recovering data please )1TB hard drive in a dell laptop)

My Seagate 1tb portable hard drive slid off the side of the laptop and hit the floor.
I was unable to then read the data. I took it to the local PC shop in Northamptonshire who sent it away and it came back saying mechanical problem which needs fixing before seeing if they can recover data and the total bill if able to recover would be around £600 – £700., which included a new portable hard drive. I decided not to pursue this line and tried to collect all the stored data from other sources. However I am still considerably short of achieving that and have purchased another portable drive and am ensuring that I have two copies as the originals were removed from photo memory cards to allow re-use. I tried to read the old drive before accepting it was not economical to recover and discard, this was on an old desktop pc. However it came to life and I tried to copy the files but there was insufficient memory on the desktop. I did copy one folder to a memory stick. before closing the PC and awaiting for the new drive to arrive. It arrived but now I can’t read anything. It makes the noises you describe for a dropped drive under “symptoms”. I am interested in an estimate for the ability to read and recover the data please.

We have a motion computing MC-C5 CTF-003 tablet computer.
The tablet fails to find the hard disk and therefore boot to Windows 7. We have tried recovery and repair using a Windows 7 install disk, but no drive is found. Instead we get a “No Boot Device” error message.
We need to extract the data from the hard drive, we are located in London.
The drive is:
IBM System X, 50BG SSD, SATA 1.5GB
IBM FRU: 43W7737
Part #: IBM50-01903-SP2ACU

We have an external hardrive which was connected through to our computer via our wifi network. The hardrive itself appears to have stopped working and will not register on any computer. It seems to be a mechanical failure. It is a Seagate hardrive.

Seagate external hard drive began to make a bleep noise. My computer does not recognise it. I tried Taplin computers in Hillsborough who have previously been reliable and they said it’s failed and they cannot retrieve data. The drive contains mainly photos which I would like to retrieve. It also has some confidential material which are reports which I have other copies of but need to say they are confidential. We are located in Sheffield but I can bring the hard drive to your offices if required.

Model: 1TB Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive
Model number: SRD00F1
Hard drive is not recognized by any pc. hard drive spins however power light does not illuminate. I require full data recovery and live in Liverpool.

These are all examples of hard drive failure that is producing the “No Boot Device” error as a failure symptom. To extract the data from the hard drive it is recommended that you find an experienced data recovery company. Hard drives are complex things, don’t go attempting to retrieve the files yourself, you’ll make things 10 times worse.

iPhone and Samsung Data Recovery

In my previous post I also wrote about phone data recovery services. Since then I’ve received quite a few more requests to retrieve the data from broken and damaged mobile phones. Here are some more questions.

My iphone 4s was stuck in recovery mode and after connecting it to itunes and pressing update, it factory reset instead. It wiped all the data from my phone and instead synced with my ipad which I did not want it to do. Nothing has been backed up by iTunes or iCloud so I am left with a phone which has completely reset. Follwing this frustration I was wondering if it was at all possible to recover any of the data which has been lost and if so what this would include?

Dr Fone software for recovery

I have an iPhone 5 that’s disabled and was wondering if I’m able to recover the photos off it?
Been advised by iPhone service – that they can only resent the phone but will wipe off all data.

I do have an iphone 6, 64GB, that falls and did not turn on again, anyways i just want to recover an specific pictures from my trip to Thailand, it is not in the icloud because i didnt do the backup, please contact me to get more info.

Samsung Galaxy S3
Will go into download mode
Will go into restore mode but shows a long string of errors starting with failed to mount /efs (no such file or directory)
mount /system (no such file or directory)
I have tried recovery using dr.phone. It gets partially though and then reports it the flash recovery package failed.

More on recovering data from phones

There’s been a lot of interest recently about getting the data off of phones for legal cases. This area is known as mobile phone forensics and in the UK, I would say the specialists are http://phone-recovery.pen.io/. Most of the time, it’s acase of recovering deleted text and WhatsApp messages, but internet histories – ie. the sites people have been browsing are all of interest.

Recovering deleted text messages from phone

I have an iPhone 256Gb physically damaged and MacBook which is stopped working. I would like to recover the data from both, could you please let me know the cost of recovery & turnaround time. The phone data in I need are text messages that have been deleted.

I have a Sony Xperia C5303. It was working fine up until it stopped charging, possibly liquid damage? I have had the battery replaced but still the red light comes on but it wont charge. Technician said it was likely to be a motherboard issue. I would like to recover photos and data before getting a new phone, would be grateful for your advice. This is quite a sensitive issue – I want to see if any of the photos on the phone have been deleted.

My BlackBerry Z10 will not switch on after trying everything.
When plugged into a laptop it does not recognise the phone or that it is plugged in.
I have a lot of photos, videos and files that I want recovered and would like to know the cost and timeframe for the data recovery.
I am in London.

Phone was dropped. Screen is black and touch screen does not work. But device still alive underneath. Cannot unlock to view files on computer. All data saved on phone’s memory. Samsung galaxy A5

So, try http://phone-recovery.pen.io/ for the recovery of deleted texts and photos from a phone.

HP RAID and Server Data Recovery

Device: HP Mediasmart Server EX475
Problem: Worked fine from purchase in 2007 until it failed to boot up just over 4 years ago. Spent an age and a fortune on phone calls to HP support to talk me through the recovery process, which didn’t work. At which point they ran out of ideas and I ran out of money and will to live. I am now wondering if it’s possible to at least rescue some data, if not get the thing working again. I have all the original manuals, installation set-up and recovery discs.

I sent some RAID 5 hards drive to ‘Rapid Data Recovery’, who replaced some parts, but in the end were unable to recover any data. They sent this message:
‘…analysis of the medias platter surface revealed inconsistencies of the magnetic properties which could potentially be linked to the contact made between the head and platter surface resulting from the initial ‘head crash’. This may have been caused by one of several factors ranging from environmental impacts (e.g. a drop or bang) up to temperature expansion of certain components. Due to this preventative damage caused we were unable to initialise the heads long enough for a forensic scan to take place before further damage was caused to the replacement read/write heads.’
I read that you sometimes receive hard drives that have already been to other data recovery companies, because you have more advanced techniques. Is there a chance Data Clinic would be able to recover my data?

Here’s a picture of a hard drive with a head crash

Recovering data and files from servers like the HP EX475 needs to be completed in a careful and considered way. From previous experience the company Data Clinic are probably the best RAID data recovery experts in the UK. Just Google ‘data clinic’ and you’ll find them.

Data recovery in Hertfordshire – use London

In this post we focus our data recovery attention on the county of Hertfordshire and reproduce enquiries from St Albans, Hertford, Watford and Stevenage.

  • hard drive recovery Hertford, HertfordshireWe have a portable hard drive (1tb) filled with films. Etc for the kids and some assorted files of mines, Lad took it apart after viewing how online, he got it to work for a while and now it reads as no data when connected to TV or laptops, any idea of it can be retrieved? We live in Hertfordshire, St Albans
  • And a question from a customer in Watford: I have a 2tb hard drive which has failed. Initially it would access the files but when I tried opening them it said the files were corrupt. I tried data recovery software but it didn’t work. The drive then started making clicking noises and finally nothing.
  • I have a verbatim external hard drive with was pulled out and dropped when cleaning staff was cleaning my husbands office in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. The connection is now inside the hard drive so am unable to put the connection in and am unsure of any other damage. Would appreciate if you could help as hard drive has a lot of work related info on.
  • And finally, this question from a computer repair company in Hertford: I have an external hardrive (currenly not infront of me so can’t advise of make and model) that powers up (shows a white light) but does not connect to my laptop. Normally when its connected, a blue light comes on.

london for data recoveryAdvice: Hertfordshire is very close to London which is where most of the best data recovery companies have locations. Take a look at Data Clinic’s hard drive data recovery services – their London page is here https://www.dataclinic.co.uk/london-data-recovery/.

RAID 5 Data Recovery

In the world of UK data recovery services, I notice that the homepage of RAID recovery experts http://data-recovery-tips.co.uk/ has been rewritten. It’s good I like the changes: they’ve split the site into two. The first part offers data recovery services from larger systems such as HP and Dell RAID 5 server arrays, whilst the second focuses on DIY data recovery – how to tell what problem your hard drive has and then provides solutions for how to recover the files yourself. Data Recovery Tips is an English site, with locations up and down the country including London, Birmingham and Manchester.

Need data from old laptops
I also have things I need retrieving from three laptops that are few years old and are not used anymore. Once we sort the phone out I can look further into the laptops. I should be available for the next few days to discuss but I will be in Ireland from Thursday and unavailable until the following Tuesday. I look forward to hearing back from you.

I have an external sea gate hard drive. It doesn’t register if I plug it into my computers. It’s not reading. Took it to an it shop and they said they couldn’t do it.
They said it smells burnt inside. Can you help ?

In this post I write about rescuing the data from iPhone and Samsung mobile devices. Follow the links for more information.

Samsung Troubleshooting
Samsung Galaxy S3 with a corrupted partition wont turn on or re boot
i need the contacts out of it and id like a few other files if possible

Samsung S4 is dead and will not charge and turn on. Battery has broken phonebeen exchanged with a good battery but no difference. What would the cost be to recover the photographs from the phone? I am imagining that this may involve removing the internal memory chip.

I’ve got an old Samsung galaxy S3 that was water damaged sometime ago. As a result it is completely broken, doesn’t turn on at all. After watching some videos online, I’ve tried taking it apart and removing corrosion etc. I was wondering if it would be possible to recover old photos, whatsapp messages, etc?

My friend and I got into an argument and she smashed my phone against a wall. S7 Edge. I dont care for the phone, but the data in there, like my pics are extremely valuable to me. Do you think it’s possible to recover it?

iPhone’s Not Working

Recovering data from encrypted hard drives

data encryptionThere are various ways of safeguarding data through the use of encryption. One way is to ‘lock’ the hard drive from being used until a password is entered eg. by using an ATA command to encrypt a hard drive. Another method is to install a program that encrypts the data on the drive. Retrieving files from encrypted hard drives is the work of specialist data recovery companies such as Data Clinic Ltd, who are experienced specialists in all forms of hard drive recovery.

Question: I have a ata password locked ssd and I’d like to know if you guys can help me unlock it. I dont need the data on the drive.

Answer: An ATA password locked hard drive requires unlocking by the use of commands that interface directly with the hard drive. Thus, it’s usually necessary to go to the hard drive manufacturers themselves or a good quality data recovery company like Data Clinic Ltd in order to get the hard drive’s ATA password removed.

Western digital drive used for backup and data storage will not mount.
Have tried using other lead and other Mac but still no joy.

Question: I have a SSD HDD from a laptop that is encrypted with McAfee Endpoint and not recognizable when booting from the laptop. Can I send it to you to see if you can get the data off?

Answer: McAfee Endpoint is a hard drive encryption program that seeks to safeguard data by encrypting it on the hard drive. The data can only be read by decrypting the hard drive with a digital ‘key’. If this key becomes lost or is forgotten there is very little chance of the data being decrypted, even by a data recovery company.

Note: Encryption is used to safeguard data so if you are going to encrypt it, either by using an ATA password or by the use of a program like McAfee Endpoint, then make sure you don’t lose the password.
