Hard drive bad translator and Kindle data recovery

In this post we look at Data Clinic’s Edinburgh data recovery operation at St Andrews Square and discuss recovering the data from a hard drive with a bad translator and getting the files back from a Kindle Fire.

Recover hard drive with a bad translator
I have an apple Time Capsule hard drive which stopped working. I sent it to another company for repair and their report said:
“I’m afraid that we are actually not able to recover any data in your case, despite our efforts.
Though the head transplant itself was successful, we still had to contend with the drive’s system firmware before we could recover data. In particular, the layer that actually translates your data from how it is physically recorded on the discs badly needed repair.
At manufacturing, no drive is perfect. The location of all the disc surface defects are recorded and skipped by the translator. In your case, a lot of these original entries were missing. We managed to compensate for most of the entries, but there were just too many to complete.
Unless the translator is healthy, no meaningful data can be recovered.”
Is this something that you would be able to repair?

Kindle Fire Data Recovery
I have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and the device is now stuck in a boot loop. If I factory reset I may lose all the information stored on the device. There is a digital diary with 8yrs of entries stored on the device with is very precious. Im not bothered about the device its self just the data. Would there be away of recovering all the data from the Kindle and have it stored onto a flash drive. If the Kindle needs to be destroyed in the process, then that is fine. I live in Edinburgh, Scotland

Can’t access hard drive
Cannot access data on my WD My Passport Ultra (1TB). I have 776 GB stored on there – mainly photos. When connected to PC (Windows 10) I get an error message saying “Location is not available. D: is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect” and cannot view anything on the drive. When connected to my old MacBook Air (OS X Yosemite, mid 2013), I can see the folders but can’t see or access the individual files. Please help – the drive contains 6 years of very precious photos that are not backed up on my Kindle Fire.

WD Elements hard drive recovery
My WD Elements external hard drive stopped being recognised on my Macbook yesterday. I and looking for data recovery in Edinburgh and my laptop froze and had to restart whilst it was plugged in, this meant I was unable to safely export the drive. After this it would no longer recognise when I plug it in. The light still flashes when I plug it in and it makes noise, but doesn’t show up on the screen. I’ve been told the drive may have a bad translator but I don’t know if this is true or not. I tried it on another computer as well.
Are you able to quote a price to have the data recovered? Mainly personal photos which I would really like to get back.

Raid and lost data

RAID hard drive failure in HPZ420
HPZ420I have a HPZ420 PC which contains a 4 disk raid 10(0+1) configured system which is unable to boot from the operating system. The PC is used to control and receive data from a scientific instrument. A week ago when the PC was working fine I noticed that one of the disks had failed and an HP engineer was called out and replaced the faulty disk but would not reconfigure the RAID system. The PC was still working fine at this point, so I decided to do a back up to external disk overnight, unfortunately the PC failed to complete this before going into its current state of losing the ability to load the operating system. I would like to recover the data.

Lost data on Playstation 4
I basically connected my hard drive with a PlayStation 4; and unplugged it without ejecting it properly – now, when I connect it with my computer it shows up but it doesn’t show my files. I had a chat with my college technician and he believes that it’s not corrupted but we can’t quite figure out the problem. I am just wondering if you are able to get all my work back as it is super important? How long it can take as it is college work and I need to hand it in? And how much do you roughly charge? Thank you so much. I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Data recovery charges can vary between several hundred and several thousand pounds. If the problem is on a single hard drive (like a PS4) then the cost is usually much lower than if the problem is spread across many hard drives like on a RAID system. My advice is to do your own research and find a decent data recovery company who can help you.

Data recovery in Hertfordshire – use London

In this post we focus our data recovery attention on the county of Hertfordshire and reproduce enquiries from St Albans, Hertford, Watford and Stevenage.

  • hard drive recovery Hertford, HertfordshireWe have a portable hard drive (1tb) filled with films. Etc for the kids and some assorted files of mines, Lad took it apart after viewing how online, he got it to work for a while and now it reads as no data when connected to TV or laptops, any idea of it can be retrieved? We live in Hertfordshire, St Albans
  • And a question from a customer in Watford: I have a 2tb hard drive which has failed. Initially it would access the files but when I tried opening them it said the files were corrupt. I tried data recovery software but it didn’t work. The drive then started making clicking noises and finally nothing.
  • I have a verbatim external hard drive with was pulled out and dropped when cleaning staff was cleaning my husbands office in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. The connection is now inside the hard drive so am unable to put the connection in and am unsure of any other damage. Would appreciate if you could help as hard drive has a lot of work related info on.
  • And finally, this question from a computer repair company in Hertford: I have an external hardrive (currenly not infront of me so can’t advise of make and model) that powers up (shows a white light) but does not connect to my laptop. Normally when its connected, a blue light comes on.

london for data recoveryAdvice: Hertfordshire is very close to London which is where most of the best data recovery companies have locations. Take a look at Data Clinic’s hard drive data recovery services – their London page is here https://www.dataclinic.co.uk/london-data-recovery/.

Black screen, nothing coming up

Here are a few questions I’ve received about what to do when your computer won’t boot, or when you switch it on and nothing comes up. Try these and if you have a problem similar to what I’ve described, you can get in touch if you need further help.

blank screen pc wont boot

I was on my computer last night and the following morning I booted it up and the screen was black. I took it to a repair store and they found that it was corrupt. I need all the data on there otherwise I will fail my A level as it has all of my Final work on there. I should have known to back it up. I was just wondering how much it would cost for it to be recovered with all the data. I live in the North West or England and my nearest cities are around Greater Manchester and Stockport.

I dropped my hard drive and now it won’t connect to my computer. I have a lot of important information on there so wanted to find out if it is recoverable?

One day suddenly stopped working , disc is 2TB WD. It start making weird noises. I’ve put disc on side for 3/4 years till now when I found your company. Disc was almost full.

I have a WD passport which has suddenly stopped being recognised by my Mac. I have tried plugging it into other computers, but nothing is coming up. The light flashes and it emits a beeping noise and makes a whirring noise. Is there any way to recover my data? Failed clicking imac hard drive

Would you able to recover files from Archos AV300? The hard drive itself is made by Toshiba. An idea of the job can be seen here http://www.dvrplayground.com/articles/portable-devices-ipod-psp-etc/archos-av300-hard-drive-upgrade-guide-glenn-l

Acer Aspire Automatic Repair

I have an Acer Aspire E1-571 that is a bit old by now to be fair…
It has been giving some problems, such as wi-fi connection and sometimes it was simply too slow. I think that’s what happens when it has 5 years on top of it with everyday Photoshop usage…
One day, I was working on it and it was running slow so I decided to restart it. When that happened, it never turned on again.
It gave me a message saying “Preparing automatic repair” for 3 hours; blank screen for another 2 hours; and “repairing errors of the disk” for another 8 hours. After those 8 hours, I forced the shutdown and when it turned on again, the first and second status only lasted 5 minutes each and the third one keep coming up. I left it for two days and nothing changed.
Basically, I can’t access my laptop and I have plenty of data there that I need to recover! University and work stuff especially…
Could you guys give me a quote of how much would be to recover the data? I don’t need to fix the laptop. I just need desperatly to recover all the data I have there…

London, Lombard StMy hdds pcb is dead and I would like to ask if you can repair it by swapping with a good one and changing the main controller chip. How much would cost that I live on Lombard Street in London I can send it to you by post.

The hard drive appears to have failed. The computer won’t boot and boot screen says there is no hard drive available to boot from. I would like to know if it is possible (and what the cost would be) to recover the data from the drive:

We would like to see if our Acer external hard drive can be recovered. The main files to recover are important pictures from our family. The drive is not detectable anymore when we plug in. HDD was beeping. A friend opened it and now beeps even worse. Containing personal data. 2TB HDD. Data about 800Gb. I would like to have quotation from you.

Data Recovery Advice

Seagate Baracuda 2TB docked external drive makes recurring clicking noise at power up then is silent. Not recognised by dock or PC SATA as media. Replacing controller with same firmware made no difference so think it is heads fault.

Buffalo 500GB external hard drive clicks and fails to start. I need a quote to include any additional costs related to where the recovered data would be placed.

I am looking for a spare part for a Seagate 2.5 hard drive (which was inside a Freecom MG mobile drive). It is a USB 3.0 converter. The P/N is EPB0009150 and I can also read S10F4501 – A0. I am not sure if the information are sufficient, but I can also send you a picture of the component.

I have a Lacie external that has stopped mounting. I think you can hear and feel it ticking away. It has wedding photos on so is fairly precious. Can you let me know how much it would cost to have a look at and try and fix?

Unable to read hard drive I/O Out Error

hard drive

I contacted you yesterday about an external hard drive that stopped working.
It’s very important (to me), because it has all my backups of research data and photos and everything on there. Unfortunately, my laptop stopped working last week and had to be sent to lenovo for repairs. As I had a backup on my external hard drive in was not too worried about the laptop potentially being wiped. Now the external hard drive is unresponsive and I’m in a panic.

my external hardrive is only appearing on disk utility, i have attempted first aid however it appears to be unsuccessful. and has advised if possible to back up all data. i believe a file has been corrupted and this has somehow broken the hardrive’s structure. i would greatly appreciate a full back up of the hard drive.

I use my seagate external hard drive to store my travel footages and edited vlogs. One day I connected it to my laptop and it completely froze the laptop. I was unable to eject before restarting because it was frozen. Once it was turned back on, the hard drive didn’t show up on finder or desktop. When it eventually does, nothing shows up, my laptop crashes and I would have to restart it again.

I have a 2TB external hard drive that gets plugged in to electricity and my laptop that had fallen and now makes a clicking sound when trying to access my data. It’s no longer recognized/accessible from my laptop. How much do you charge to recover the approximately 500GB worth of data on there and transfer it to another new hard drive?

I would like to know how much it will cost me to repair my drive. I believe it fall down. I just need to have an idea of the cost to know if I’ll be able to pay for it or not !

I will be at london 4-9 of september as a tourist.
I want to take whith me my broken hard disk and fix it . Can you help me to do it? Can you do it in that days that i stay in london?

Erased Data – Need it back

I have accidentally erased / formatted a Seagate 7200rpm USB 3 2TB external hard drive. The drive contained video files and project files and I need to get them retrieved. Is this possible? I haven’t used the drive since formatting.

Ain’t used in a long time. It has all my music and photos, videos music from over the years. Yesterday my was broke so hoped to get all music from the external but when i connect it it shows nothing and says almost empty but i know it was almost full. Anyway to retrieve it?

Hard drive does not read on laptop as is not spinning. It contains pictures. Hard Drive powers up but all i can hear is it trying to spin, pc or laptop does not recognise it also. Im in London.

Hard drive fell (a very very short distance) onto the floor, now is not recognised by Mac Pro. Makes a short sound when plugged into computer, but not recognised in Finder – but IS recognised in System Report. Looking to recover all data and move to new hard drive.

HP Proliant serversWent to format a drive and computer selected a different drive. unplugged it about 10sec in to formatting it so now wont mount. its a seagate 4tb drive and i need to recover about 500gig of photos and my iphoto cat off it. there is other info on it but i have those backed up already.
i just need a rough quote of cost to recover.

We require the data to be removed from approximately 250 removable SAS hard drives from mostly HP Pro Reliant servers prior to reselling. They are at a site in Camden, London. Please could you also let me know if there is availability over the next week.

My laptop does not recognise the hard drive when connected via USB. I have tried on multiple devices and had the same problem. It’s probably beyond my budget but I was just wondering (roughly) how much it would cost to retrieve music from my iPod classic?

Android Local Disk Boot Loops

I have a 500Gb WD passport external hard drive that has suddenly decided that it’s not going to work any more. I have been backing up files from my old laptop onto it all day and now when I insert it to my new laptop that runs off windows 10 I get either “The parameter is incorrect” error and it just says “local disk” (I) instead of “my passport” or I get a “the request failed due to a fatal device hardware error” message. The external hard drive hhas been working all day on both computers and now suddenly it’s not. Please could you help me recover my files?

data recovery seagate barracuda hddI have a Samsung M3 Slimline 1TB USB 3.0 portable hard drive, which was functioning perfectly last night. This morning I turned on the desktop it was connected to, and it seemed to get stuck on the motherboard splash screen. After plugging the hard drive into another computer and turning it on it had the same issue, but the machine booted up just fine without the drive connected. When I connect the drive once a machine is booted, the light on the drive will come on (solid), but the computer doesn’t detect anything, even as a malfunctioning drive, and when I hold my ear to the drive I can hear it beep quietly about a dozen times, then stop.
I have some of the data backed up, but not all, and I would sincerely like to try to recover what is on the drive. If possible, please contact me via email as I cannot always answer my phone due to work commitments.

laptop keyboard punched. laptop went blank. computer turns on but hard drive not found. Would you be able to look at a laptop that has had a drink spilled on it? Some of the keys have now stopped working despite tries to dry the laptop out. If so, can I bring it in at any time or do I have to book a slot? Also what would be the cost to look at it? Lost photos unable to read hard disk.

I have an Android phone stuck in a boot loop. The phone is an HTC One (i.e. M7). I had not been having any problems, and got up one day to ind the phone stuck rebooting – there was no trigger event or “incident”. The phone is quite old, and had some battery problems because of its age, but nothing worse. The phone can charge, and boots through the HTC screen and then goes blank, before resetting (maybe around a minute after powering on). I can get into the recovery screen and fastboot by holding VOL-DOWN while rebooting. I have tried various recovery or reboot options in there but none make any difference. I have NOT tried the “factory reset” option as I am much more interested in getting the data off than getting the handset working again. I also tried accessing it over ADB from my PC, but as I never tried this when the phone was working I don’t know whether the problem with that is with me or with the phone.
I wanted to ask if you could make any suggestions or give me an estimate for taking a look at the phone.
The main thing I am interested in getting back is my photos, although I am also interested in other data from the internal storage, as well as texts and data from a few apps.

Testing a new data recovery specialist in the UK

I have a Buffalo Ministation Air HDWP500U3. Which wont load on a windows or MAc. I have ran a data recovery tool and can see there is still data on it. I copied some data on this had and then it started to become inaccessible and very slow reading. Then I tried to scan it and fixed some bads and copy the data to another one. I couldn’t copy much as it become more and more hard to access.
Now it is not visible in the system anymore.
It was opened by somebody else but didn’t manage to recover the data.

External iomega 500G drive failing to mount and clicking? contains approx 400G of data mainly image files and I’d like if possible for data to be recovered and transfered to new drive. I have two external hardrives about 5 years old

Parts inside a hard driveI have removed then from there external case because they were not powering up. I need to get all the data off them and out it one one haeddrive

Clicking noise, HDD not visible in system: WD30EZRX. With the Buffalo MiniStation I’m looking to find a decent data recovery company (Ed: Look not further!), and the files on the Iomega hard drive should be recoverable too. It’s a Seagate 1TB portable hard-drive and is only a month old. It was working fine until I unplugged it from one laptop and attached to it to another. Since then it hasn’t worked, it shows up in disk management as not initalised and shows a capacity of 0 bytes.
And now it’s started making a beeping noise when it’s plugged in. I’ve attempted to use recovery software but it’s no help because the drive doesn’t show up in the scan. Does this mean the data can’t be rescued ?

Maxtor (OneTouch)
When HardDrive was connected it would hum / click, but PC would not recognise or connect.
I’ve opened the casing and noted that the hard-drive does not spin nor do the heads move from the centrally locked position. The hard-drive has photographs stored on them and i would dearly like to have them retrieved as cost effectively as possible, please.

Note: I’m trialing the services of Data Recovery Tips – an UK hard drive and phone recovery specialist. I’ll let you know how they get on in getting the data from the above storage devices back.

Different Fault, Different Problem

Hi i have an Android, that was water damaged, the screen is knackered and it sounded like it was fried, i soaked it in Iso-propynol 98% and left it to dry for a week. Plugged it into my computer and its registered a couple of times and sometimes not, i sent it away to a local shop and they stated it was dead, i know its not because i can hear the thing trying to work when plugged into the computer, i think the only way im going to get the data is to send to someone like yourself.

I need read/write heads for western digital my passport, model number: wdbkxh5000abk-03

I’m having trouble with my Samsung portable M3 1TB hard drive. It is not connecting to my laptop/PC – it usually flashes a blue light when connected but is not doing this at all now.

I have a Maxtor Basics 1000GB Storage Hard Drive which has served me well. But it has failed, and I can no longer access my data, which includes all my family photographs. I can deliver it to the 68 Lombard Street office.

1 TB WD external Hard Drive my passport.
Contains 830gb of data (mostly video but also photo and documents) used on mac.
Drive suffered small impact yesterday, and now gets recognised very slowly by laptop, it Cannot be ejected normally and a force eject is required. The drive sometimes loads the files inside of it but I haven’t tried playing or transferring them from there. Although most of the time it just unresponsive or the file names appear without the actual documents within them appearing. Otherwise it sounds normal as if the disk is turning and the light on the side blinks / stays on whilst the cable is plugged into the laptop.

I have a Seagate HDD with corrupted firmware. I would like to know how much it would cost to recover the data on it, or if it is at all possible. External 3tb hard drive corrupt only had it for 2 weeks and now important data is lost.

I have a internal WD SATA hard drive that is no longer able to mount with my computer. It is Macintoch Journal formatted and I fitted it into my HD enclosure with 4 others. 1 has failed and is the one I’m having trouble with.
I have tried many ways to resolve it myself.
You I ask advice or to get the data recovered.

Western Digital elements 2tb external hard drive, has been dropped. Since then, when it is connected to a laptop through USB. The discs spin for the duration of 7 beeps then 3 then another 3, then the discs stop spinning and the drive is undetectable. I desperately need to re-cover all work files on the drive.

I have an xperia B3181 that has deleted text messages from a cheating husband. Can you extract that info for me. I live in Canada.

Serial ATA Hard Drive
Western Digital WD1200
WD P/N WD1200js-00MHB0.
The drive is installed as a slave unit. There is no O/S on it.
There was no sign of imminent failure. No noise or rattles etc. The drive was OK at shut down and when I booted up next day it was simply unavailable, could not be read.
The disk contains approximately 70GB of important data.

I’ve got a raid 10 (4x2Tb/HP server/windows) badly rebuild (with a faulty disk). The files are visible but corrupted. The total amount of data on the raid is about 2Tb. Could you please sent me a quote today please.
