Recovering Deleted Data

If there’s nothing wrong with your hard drive, then you can use either software or an online data recovery service to recover your data.

Online Data Recovery Service | Data Clinic LtdThe reasons hard disks fail are several, for example they can be knocked or get the incorrect power supplies connected to them, so when you save your files to your hard drive please remember the safety of your own files is not guaranteed. Occasionally it is necessary to mend a hard disk that has developed a fault to be able to retrieve the folders on it that is not saved elsewhere. At times like these you must hire a specialist data recovery business, that are skilled in recovering the data from crashed hard-drive. Many years ago there were not that many data recovery businesses in existence, these days there are many and sadly a lot of them are not really good. Do not make the mistake of thinking the capabilities of data recovery companies are exactly the same. Their capabilities vary greatly – just because they have a decent looking web site doesn’t mean they could repair your hard drive or restore the missing files on it.

Your PC contains at least one hard disk drive. It’s the part of the computer system that stores all of the information, documents and photos you make. A hard drive is regularly full of treasured folders, so obviously, a hard drive fault is better avoided.

Occasionally if there is no damage with the hard drive, software programs may be used to help you retrieve your missing folders yourself. There are generally trial versions which can be found on the web that may let you know what they can and can’t recover first. If you decide to restore the data the software find you’ll need to purchase the application licence which generally costs several pounds. A word of warning though, what may at first appear to be a straightforward hard drive problem could be something far more serious and trying to rescue the data yourself may cause many more troubles. So if in doubt, you always need to seek specialist assistance because there might be difficulties in part of your hard drive that stop it from functioning properly.

Remember that because your hard disk breaks or the data it contains appear to have gone, this does not mean the files are gone forever. Experienced folder retrieval firms can find and rescue lost files on a damaged hard drive. In the complete process of restoring the data, the hard drive faults that led to the folders getting lost in the very first instance will likely be fixed. This is beneficial because it ensures that it isn’t going to occur again.

External Drive Recovery

Picture of an external hard disk driveExternal hard drives certainly aren’t new but they are extremely popular. Many households have more than one and companies can have hundreds. It’s the convenience and portability of external USB hard disk drives that makes them so popular.

External hard drives can be single disk systems or multiple disk NAS devices, some running RAID. Most connect to either a computer using a USB connection or a router. This last option is very popular as it allows everyone who can connect to the router to share the data on the external hard drive.

External hard drives also get knocked over or dropped, when this happens, and it happens quite a lot, they break and the data on them is lost. External hard disk recovery is possible but it takes a skilled company to do it. A dropped hard disk will often make a buzzing or a ticking sound (often described as the ‘click of death’ – Wikipedia link here). In both cases symptoms like these indicate that the hard drive has mechanical damage. I’d recommend anyone who has dropped a hard disk and broken to contact an external hard drive recovery company like Data Clinic Ltd (their external hard drive page is here) if they need to data off the disk.

Once a hard disk has been dropped it can’t really be repaired to such an extent that it’ll work without problems again, frequently data from dropped hard drives is transferred across to another external USB hard disk drive that hasn’t been dropped and works perfectly !

Digital Data – Is It Any Safer From Loss ?

Old documentsIt’s not that long-ago that we wrote everything down in books and ledgers. These days because virtually everyone has a computer, our information is frequently written to a hard disk drive instead. Technology has really brought about this change in our behaviour but has it made our files and folders any more secure as a consequence?

Digital data is not totally safe. The nearest you could get is to save copies of your folders in a fireproof and waterproof safe. This could at least give you a bit of time to recover them from a risky situation.

Many people have abandoned writing anything down entirely. I know I have. People store not only their business but their personal files like photographs and music to their own hard drives too. If all of us take music for instance, an album or CD could become scratched and won’t play. Scratching a hard drive case is not going to cause the folders to be lost, but scratching the actual face of the hard drive – the part that holds the information is going to have exactly the same effect.

Old pictures may be repaired provided that you still have the original negatives but other documents held on paper will fade over time and risk being completely destroyed by mildew and damp conditions. Frequently old records are kept in garages and lofts – these storage locations are hardly perfect and the temperatures may differ considerably. Often there is frequently a higher moisture content that is sadly often fatal to paper.

It is important that you manage the data on your own hard drive. You might think that as the files are stored on the hard drive it will be safe but this is not true. Documents and folders are easily deleted or overwritten, if you are not focused. If this happens, you’ll want a data recovery service to recover your documents and folders.

Data recovery services are used when there exists some kind of data loss. If the missing data is of no value then there is not much purpose in using a data recovery specialist. When the lost data is valuable and is needed a company supplying data recovery services can be contacted who can have the ability to recover the missing files and folders. These companies specialise in fixing broken hard drives and retrieving the files and folders from them. Of course, when the information you might have is backed up somewhere this minimises the likelihoods of data loss and the need to use a data recovery support company. I’d recommend you look for a data recovery reviews site and see which companies are recommended. An example company with a good reputation in the UK is Datlabs. If you find yourself with a broken hard disk holding data you need contact a reputable data recovery service. There are numerous data recovery businesses but only some of them are really any good. Simply go online and seek out a few data recovery company reviews. These should give you an idea of the recommended data-recovery service you can contact to recover your hard disk drive data.

WD Users and Problems with Mavericks

OSX Mavericks - Recover Deleted DataWikipedia has documented the known issue with users of Western Digital external hard drives who upgrade to the OSX Mavericks. Here’s the link.

To summarise, issues became apparent when some users of WD products and especially WD disk management software upgraded to Mavericks. The most common issue was hard drive data loss &/or data corruption. WD were quick to withdraw the problem causing software from download and issued new versions that did not cause data loss issues with Mavericks, but for some users the damage had already been done and it was often not possible to reverse this either.

If you’ve been affected with this problem you may like to try talking to a decent data recovery company, there are reviews of them on Google. My advice would be to avoid any DIY or free software methods as they could easily make matters worse. If there is any software issued on the WD site that addresses the data loss problem you should be ok using that to help you.

Understand that just because your hard-disk breaks or the information on it seems to have disappeared, this does not mean that the data is lost forever. Skilled data retrieval companies that will find and rescue lost data on a damaged hard drive. This is useful since it insures that it is not going to occur again.

Does Your Hard Disk Drive Make Noises ?

Photo of a damaged hard disk drive

Serious damage can be caused by mechanical failures on hard disk drives and it’s best to make sure your data is saved elsewhere.

Has something happened to your hard drive? Is it making noises that it usually didn’t? Hard disks should run virtually silently, the exception being the clicking sound that may occasionally be heard during data read and write cycles. If you start hearing noises if the hard drive isn’t being accessed or hearing noises you have never heard before, it probably means that your hard disk is failing. Grinding and squealing noises typically imply that the drive has a serious mechanical problem and is near failure. If you don’t have a backup of your data, it’s a good idea to take a backup ASAP.

There are only two ways that you can shield yourself from losing all of your data in your hard disk. The very first and most likely the smartest will back-up data onto a functioning hard drive, so then you’ve got an additional copy, should it in fact crash along with your data isn’t totally gone. The second way is a bit more complicated, but in a couple of steps I’ve described how to fix your hard disk temporarily.

Run free hard drive diagnostic applications, which is already available on several PCs or on the Internet. More complex software is available for a price from pc software developers. At best, this software will mark certain areas as terrible and keep the pc from utilizing that later on. It won’t fully fix the area of the hard disk. If any corrections are made and also the diagnostics applications was effective. It is only a short-term solution and remember, the diagnostics applications will operate temporarily, but will eventually fail, therefore change it instantly.

To keep you from losing your data in the foreseeable future, it’s essential to back up your hard drive often. I’d advise doing this at least once every month. With an up-to-date back-up, recovering your data is as simple as installing a fresh drive and restoring your data. Nowadays, hard drives are affordable and simple to set up, so you ought to have no trouble. The most important item to take out of this place is really to make sure you’re always backing up your data onto another hard drive.

Helium Hard Drives – The Next Step in Hard Drive Technology ??

Helium Hard Disk Drives

Helium Hard Drives: Are they the next big thing ??

Western Digital could topple as the king of enterprise disc shipments Seagate thanks to its helium drives, according to analysts IHS. The technology has been produced by WD’s subsidiary Hitachi GST.

Read / write heads and spinning magnetic platters in hard-drives full of helium encounter less drag instead those in devices comprising clean air, and thus consume up to 23 per cent less energy according to Hitachi GST.

Also, as much as seven platters could be set inside such a drive instead of the maximum of five seen today.

A 4TB five-platter drive would turn into a 5.6TB drive utilizing the same 800GB/platter areal density technology. Therefore Hitachi GST can optimize helium drives for low power consumption and high capacity or a combination of the two – and give Seagate a right shoeing.

IHS storage systems believe helium hard drives could propel Western Digital to the top business drive spot, dethroning Seagate along the way.

Helium filled drives could raise drive capacity before data storage systems – including heat

assisted magnetic recording – reach the market. Their projections show the marketplace for helium drives will mount from virtually zero in 2012 to over one hundred million units in 2016, especially in case that the high prices of production are brought down.

But will the prices come down? And also the IHS speculation assumes the seven-platter helium filled monsters still fit in conventional 3.5-inch drive bays.

One answer would be to add flash to the enterprise drives and turn them into go faster hybrids. Hitachi GST could do the same, and we’d have helium gas-filled hybrids. As these technologies permutation are played out it’s going to be an interesting few years.

The uses of DLT, DDS and LTO Data backup Storage Tapes

data tape conversion, recovery and duplicationIf you are looking for storage solutions to back up your files there are various systems used some of these backup tapes include DDS, DLT and LTO. In order for you to decide which system will work for you best you will need to take the amount of storage that you need into account. In this article we will discuss their advantages, disadvantages and make recommendations on what to do if your tape develops a fault that requires expert assistance. We’ve been involved with data backup storage tapes and their recovery for over 15 years and like to think our advice is good.

DLT (digital linear tape) is a system that has been around since 1985 recently this system has undergone an upgrade in capacity and speed making it a sought after storage system. If you require storage for either a small or medium type system it would be advisable to use a DLT storage tape. DLT tapes are a reliable way to store your systems as it uses a straight down and up recording type mode.

Using a DLT system now means you can store up to 110 gigabytes on a single tape and the speed it offers is 10 megabytes in a second. This latest advancement has enabled the DLT tapes to take on networks and systems that it could not previously handle.

The DDS system unfortunately cannot be compared to the DLT and LTO as it will only offer you with 2.4 megabytes per a second and you will only be able to store up to 20 gigabytes of storage making this system low on capacity and performance levels.

LTO is a storage system that is produced by Hewlett- Packard and IBM. The LTO stands for (linear tape open). With this storage tape you are able to store up to 100 gigabytes at a speed of 15 megabytes in a second.

Both DLT and LTO systems can offer you with a fast and effective way to store your backup files. However the popularity in the two systems definitely leans towards using the DLT system. Over thirty million cartridges have been sold to date meaning this product is definitely a favourite among people looking for an effective method to back up their systems.

DLT has the ability to read tapes that you may have that are old but it will not be able to write them. You would be advised to maintain your present archives in a format that will allow the DLT system to use them. This system can save you on money and time when it comes to re-recording your older tapes onto new ones.

If you have used a DDS system in the past for storage purposes you can now make use of a more advanced system such as DLT to re record and place your storage onto a more effective way of storing.

Today the demands on storage have grown to new heights and more and more people are looking at options available on back up, retrieving, protecting and storing of important data.
LTO offers new technology along with a high powered way of backing up of your data, while DTO offers you a refinement in their new Super DLT range that has come leaps and bounds from the first system used back in 1985.

Make use of either a LTO or DTO system to back up your precious data, there is now an innovative way to ensure you are able to save your older tapes and place them onto new ones without sacrificing on the end quality of the tape.

Storage is a wonderful way to protect your assets that require storage solutions, this will protect you from damage and permanent loss on older tapes you may be keeping. Remember to always place data onto a back up system to avoid unwanted losses that can be experienced from theft or damage.
