October 2017 Data Recovery Enquiries

Hello there – in this post I’m writing about some of the data recovery requests I had over the last 2 weeks. As you’ll see there are quite a few people having suffered data loss with faulty hard drives and smartphones. I’ve put links of interest in where appropriate. Visitors to my blog are welcome to contact me with their hard drive and phone recovery questions.

lots of hard drivesI have a Western Digital external hard drive which has recently failed. It will not read on the computer, but seems to click once plugged it. The light on the hard drive still appears, but it is in no way readable. There is a lot of data on this drive that I would very much like back and need. Please let me know if you meed more information.

I was download a .rar file online and was unable to open it on my laptop, I decided to put it on a this USB drive to try opening the file on another computer, as I unplugged it and replugged it in, since then, the USB reads UNREADABLE. Before that, this USB has had zero problems and been really fast and efficient with handling files.

My W10 Lenovo Ideapad 100 laptop took a hard knock and will not start up. The power light comes on, the HDD tries to spin up, but the OS won’t start, screen blank. I had a back up, but wife’s work and personal accounts (were on desktop) are unavailable and need recovery.

HDD stopped working while backing up the data. I only need to recover a PST file stored into Document-Oulook data file.

I’ve recently got a new laptop due to damage of the old one. It is a Macbook Pro 13″ retina 2015 model. I have the old hardrive from the exact same model and there are photos and files on there that I need. I’ve tried to locate adapter etc to do it myself however for this model im not having any luck.

The drive does not spin up and can not be found though PC anymore after i changed a faulty PSU, and did not change the PSU SATA cables over like i should have. Pretty sure i heard a small pop when i booted the pc. After looking at the SATA cables, they are set out slightly differently.

I have a seagate portable 1tb hard drive which i have tried to get working again but i cant see the device in windows and there is a clicking sound and a scratching sound

I have a Western digital My book studio 1Tb HDD which has around 500gb or so if data on it. The drive was connected to my Mac when the mac crashed and in order to use the mac I had to disconnect the power source. It now no longer mounts.

more hard drives

I recently had my hard drive sent off to be repaired under the name Katie galley, can you tell me at which stage of repair it’s ab and whether you have received it please

Seagate 1TB not connecting to computer, the light won’t come on and there is a buzzing noise. Can you retrieve the photos on the device?

I’d like you to look at an external hard drive which seems to of died. It was making a not very nice noise when stared up and then not being recognised. Not sure it had taken a knock at some point, but last time I remember using it did seem hotter than usual. Our IT department looked at it but don’t do data recovery.

All of a sudden the external drive says that the directory or file may be corrupt and I can’t access any of the work I have on the drive.

I have an old nokia 6230 which contains some cherished photos and videos on, I have tried all the obvious ways of data transfer such as via cable and bluetooth to no avail. Is this something you can do?

I have a segate barracuda 3000GB internal hard drive that has failed and I need to get the data back. The drive starts to spin up but then makes a clucking sound and stops so the PC can’t identify it. It is not full but does contain all our family photos, videos, music and some files. I think it has 2 partitions.

I have a 2tb hard drive that failed on me a month or 2 ago and I would like to retrieve the data from it. There’s nothing too major on there, more personal photos etc and an archive of work.

An old Acer Aspire 1700 hard drive is in clicking mode. The hard disc has been removed professionally. I need a quote for data recovery.

I have an iPhone 6S stuck on the Apple logo. While it is possible for Apple to reboot it (hardware confirmed as fine), they advised that there is a risk it may lose the data in doing so. I would like a quotation for recovery of the data (photos mostly) on the phone please?

I have a WD external drive and its suddenly not possible to open the data (states fatal error) and diagnostic for data lifeguard failed with error 008 – too many fatal errors. Could you please let me know if it is possible to fix this? How much would it cost and how long would it take? And how much data am I facing to lose?

Android Local Disk Boot Loops

I have a 500Gb WD passport external hard drive that has suddenly decided that it’s not going to work any more. I have been backing up files from my old laptop onto it all day and now when I insert it to my new laptop that runs off windows 10 I get either “The parameter is incorrect” error and it just says “local disk” (I) instead of “my passport” or I get a “the request failed due to a fatal device hardware error” message. The external hard drive hhas been working all day on both computers and now suddenly it’s not. Please could you help me recover my files?

data recovery seagate barracuda hddI have a Samsung M3 Slimline 1TB USB 3.0 portable hard drive, which was functioning perfectly last night. This morning I turned on the desktop it was connected to, and it seemed to get stuck on the motherboard splash screen. After plugging the hard drive into another computer and turning it on it had the same issue, but the machine booted up just fine without the drive connected. When I connect the drive once a machine is booted, the light on the drive will come on (solid), but the computer doesn’t detect anything, even as a malfunctioning drive, and when I hold my ear to the drive I can hear it beep quietly about a dozen times, then stop.
I have some of the data backed up, but not all, and I would sincerely like to try to recover what is on the drive. If possible, please contact me via email as I cannot always answer my phone due to work commitments.

laptop keyboard punched. laptop went blank. computer turns on but hard drive not found. Would you be able to look at a laptop that has had a drink spilled on it? Some of the keys have now stopped working despite tries to dry the laptop out. If so, can I bring it in at any time or do I have to book a slot? Also what would be the cost to look at it? Lost photos unable to read hard disk.

I have an Android phone stuck in a boot loop. The phone is an HTC One (i.e. M7). I had not been having any problems, and got up one day to ind the phone stuck rebooting – there was no trigger event or “incident”. The phone is quite old, and had some battery problems because of its age, but nothing worse. The phone can charge, and boots through the HTC screen and then goes blank, before resetting (maybe around a minute after powering on). I can get into the recovery screen and fastboot by holding VOL-DOWN while rebooting. I have tried various recovery or reboot options in there but none make any difference. I have NOT tried the “factory reset” option as I am much more interested in getting the data off than getting the handset working again. I also tried accessing it over ADB from my PC, but as I never tried this when the phone was working I don’t know whether the problem with that is with me or with the phone.
I wanted to ask if you could make any suggestions or give me an estimate for taking a look at the phone.
The main thing I am interested in getting back is my photos, although I am also interested in other data from the internal storage, as well as texts and data from a few apps.

More Hard Drive and Phone Woes

The phone calls keep coming in for which I am grateful. It’s all work and I love to recover data. Here are some of the latest woes I’ve had to deal with, from both hard drives and mobile phones.

anxious person - lost data1TB Toshiba external hard drive.
No physical damage. no clicking. no noise. cannot access data.

I have 3x8mm data cartridges (http://www.ebay.co.uk/p/TDK-3-pack-of-30-Minute-Vhs-c-Camcorder-Tapes-Tc-30hg/691427480) that were used to record video on a camcorder roughly 20 years ago. I need to get the data turned into digital so that I can watch them back (the old camcorder is long gone).

Western Digital (MyBook) external hard disk that was providing backup to my MacBook Pro has stopped working and it asks if I want to reboot the hard disk. I need to recover the data as it has backup plus other data stored on the disk. The hard drive is just clicking and appearing on the desk top. Ive checked to see if the data reading arm is stuck. it isn’t.

Dropped my hard drive while moving from one room to another, plugged it in and it started making a beeping noise. I looked online and it said it might be a problem with the heads. I really need to get the data off my hard drive and I am hoping you will have a solution for me. It is a WD My Passport for mac, not sure how old.

Asus laptop failed when trying to boot up once it has lost all of battery life (i tired to boot up as i believed it was connected to power, but it later transpired that battery ran out as power socket was turned off). Only bios screen comes up when turning on, the computer does not ‘see’ the hard drive.
No mechanical damage.

I have a 32 GB micro SD which wont allow me to access my JPEG images, there is a lot of photos of sentimental value to me so it would be nice to recover these damaged/corrupted files. no issue accessing and seeing the files, however I cannot see the images. I am a student in Preston and would be looking for a affordable price. Tried a few softwares, nothing works

LG G4 phone.
The device is in a bootloop.
There is severe corruption to the operating system and the device’s memory.
Require pictures and contacts recovering.

My issue involves my laptop starting up, however before booting to a log in screen it shows a message which says the hard drive is corrupted.
Is there anything you could do to recover my data? As a warning the PC is holding quite a substantial amount of data (perhaps 600/700GB?). I’m quite keen to recover it!
