Latest Enquiries

Here are the latest hard drive enquiries that I’ve been dealing with. The data from most of these was recovered I’m please to say.

WD Passport mechanical fault, it is ticking.
Could you please give me a idea of cost to recover the data.

I needed hard dish actuator since my hard disk is not working – hard drive spins up then powers off need the data off it

external seagate drive

I have an external harddrive that has failed on me when I attempted to do a cleanup. There are photos which I need to recover from it which is the most important, however I also have some sensitive information on there as well. I attempted a recovery but only got partway as it was so slow. Please advise whether you can assist.

My mac regonises my lacie porsche design 2tb hd with usb c connection, however it won’t let me open any of the files. i was wondering if i could get a quote on how much it would be to fix it and the time period it will take to do so, thank you very much

My Seagate Backup Plus Portable Harddrive has not been working for 6 months. It was in the middle of a file transfer on my Mac when the computer shut down and since is not recognized on my PC or Mac , but the light still goes on and the disk is spinning inside the HD. What is the estimated cost of repair/recovery, if possible? Please email back as I am moving to the UK in one month.

I have a 2TB iomega home media network hard drive ‘cloud edition’ which has stopped working with a red light permanently on the front. It’s not making any unusual sounds from the hard drive.
Are you familiar with the divice or problem? Can the data be retrieved?

I need to restore the SQL database MDF file and delete it.You have SQL fragment detection software, and I scan it and send it to you.

Failed Raid 0 (striped) 4tb G-Drive. Drive does not mount or spin up.

Faulty drive, starts to work but wont read the hard drive at all. 500Gb Lacie external hard drive. When connected it makes a noise (almost like a beep) like the disk starts spinning and stops, and again. I have tried connecting it to various laptops and no of them would recognise it. I would like to recover some personal photos (no need to do the whole disk)

Testing a new data recovery specialist in the UK

I have a Buffalo Ministation Air HDWP500U3. Which wont load on a windows or MAc. I have ran a data recovery tool and can see there is still data on it. I copied some data on this had and then it started to become inaccessible and very slow reading. Then I tried to scan it and fixed some bads and copy the data to another one. I couldn’t copy much as it become more and more hard to access.
Now it is not visible in the system anymore.
It was opened by somebody else but didn’t manage to recover the data.

External iomega 500G drive failing to mount and clicking? contains approx 400G of data mainly image files and I’d like if possible for data to be recovered and transfered to new drive. I have two external hardrives about 5 years old

Parts inside a hard driveI have removed then from there external case because they were not powering up. I need to get all the data off them and out it one one haeddrive

Clicking noise, HDD not visible in system: WD30EZRX. With the Buffalo MiniStation I’m looking to find a decent data recovery company (Ed: Look not further!), and the files on the Iomega hard drive should be recoverable too. It’s a Seagate 1TB portable hard-drive and is only a month old. It was working fine until I unplugged it from one laptop and attached to it to another. Since then it hasn’t worked, it shows up in disk management as not initalised and shows a capacity of 0 bytes.
And now it’s started making a beeping noise when it’s plugged in. I’ve attempted to use recovery software but it’s no help because the drive doesn’t show up in the scan. Does this mean the data can’t be rescued ?

Maxtor (OneTouch)
When HardDrive was connected it would hum / click, but PC would not recognise or connect.
I’ve opened the casing and noted that the hard-drive does not spin nor do the heads move from the centrally locked position. The hard-drive has photographs stored on them and i would dearly like to have them retrieved as cost effectively as possible, please.

Note: I’m trialing the services of Data Recovery Tips – an UK hard drive and phone recovery specialist. I’ll let you know how they get on in getting the data from the above storage devices back.

Help and Advice in Data Recovery

There now follows some of the latest enquiries from people requiring a data recovery service. Either from a NAS or single hard drive. My recommendation is to check out various data recovery blogs online (such as this one) or go to a well established data recovery firm who know what they’re doing. In the UK I’d recommend the services of Data Clinic Ltd, for both hard drive and NAS recovery.

Drive appears in NAS Navigator as in EM mode, will not accept firmware flash. Drive 1 showed as faulty last week, replaced drive, new drive would not accept RAID, Drive 2 showed critical bad sectors, now partition not found

Western Digital My Passport hard drivesIts formatted to Mac, the drive recieves power and lights up but doesn’t initialise or show in the finder window. Its an old drive.
I would like to switch the data to a new drive. Do you also sell good portables?

make : toshiba
model : MK5056GSY
HDD CODE : HDD2E61 F VL01 T
FIRMWARE : A0/LH003C

My hardrive is hardly one month old but it has stopped working. I plugged it in today and it makes that beeping noise.
I have all my company’s files in it and I need to access them asap! I don’t have a back up so I’m not in the best position.
Please let me know if you can help, how long it would take and how much it would cost me.

My seagate 2tb external hard drive is not connecting and making a beeping sound.
I was wondering how much data recovery would cost?

I was wondering if I would be able to recover any possible deleted data from my USB drive. I last accessed the files on Thursday but when I went to look today I noticed that the folder I kept them in was gone. I’m not sure if ive simply accidentally deleted them or there are other issues with the drive. If you could give me a call back on the number provided it would be much appreciated.

I have a Western Digital External USB drive (its powered by USB). After two years, I plugged it in to retrieve a file, it worked just fine. However, since then its not visible in Disk Utility or Finder on my mac, or indeed any (tried 4 other) macs.

External hard drive not working. I have a hard drive of which the disk has broken. I have had it looked at before but I am wanting a second opinion. It is a WD my passport. It is full of photos that I was told could not be recovered.
Do you think you could help ?

Seagate Hard Drives Not Found

Hi, I have a Seagate portable drive that I accidentally unplugged from my Mac a few days ago. When I pushed the USB back in, my laptop no longer recognised the drive, and the drive itself made a beeping noise every second and the light on it kept flashing. Just wanted to find out how much it would be cost to get it fixed or get the files off of there. Through Seagate it’s several hundred pounds and I definitely can’t afford that as a student ha! Thanks in advance.

Computer Science Labs logoI have a seagte portable hard five, it got bumped or knocked over in the house. I would like to get information like photos recovered from it and was looking for a price.
I’m currently working away at the moment so a reply by email would be good.
I live in the glasgow are so could drop drive Into lab.

My advice would be to try Computer Science Labs at http://computersciencelabs.com

Emergency RAID Data Recovery

I have a home NAS unit ( Netgear Duo).
2 x 3TB raid drives for media, photo etc.
The unit fell about 30cm.
The drive now click, then after about 30 minutes go quiet, I can see about 2% of the data. ( just one folder tree) and open documents.
The rest is not visible.
I have not tried anything to avoid data loss.

My advice would be to give these people a ring: http://emergency-raid-datarecovery.com/

Helium Hard Drives – The Next Step in Hard Drive Technology ??

Helium Hard Disk Drives

Helium Hard Drives: Are they the next big thing ??

Western Digital could topple as the king of enterprise disc shipments Seagate thanks to its helium drives, according to analysts IHS. The technology has been produced by WD’s subsidiary Hitachi GST.

Read / write heads and spinning magnetic platters in hard-drives full of helium encounter less drag instead those in devices comprising clean air, and thus consume up to 23 per cent less energy according to Hitachi GST.

Also, as much as seven platters could be set inside such a drive instead of the maximum of five seen today.

A 4TB five-platter drive would turn into a 5.6TB drive utilizing the same 800GB/platter areal density technology. Therefore Hitachi GST can optimize helium drives for low power consumption and high capacity or a combination of the two – and give Seagate a right shoeing.

IHS storage systems believe helium hard drives could propel Western Digital to the top business drive spot, dethroning Seagate along the way.

Helium filled drives could raise drive capacity before data storage systems – including heat

assisted magnetic recording – reach the market. Their projections show the marketplace for helium drives will mount from virtually zero in 2012 to over one hundred million units in 2016, especially in case that the high prices of production are brought down.

But will the prices come down? And also the IHS speculation assumes the seven-platter helium filled monsters still fit in conventional 3.5-inch drive bays.

One answer would be to add flash to the enterprise drives and turn them into go faster hybrids. Hitachi GST could do the same, and we’d have helium gas-filled hybrids. As these technologies permutation are played out it’s going to be an interesting few years.
